Paper Reading

Read a research paper from a PDF, arXiv link, URL, or local source and build one offline visual HTML atlas with a Markdown audit copy. Use when the user wants to understand or explain a paper's argument, mechanisms, equations or proofs, figures, and evidence. Two reading modes: Brief Reading for a focused explanation by default, and Deep Reading for full technical reconstruction on request. Reviewer critique and research comparisons are optional lenses.

# Paper Reading

Help the reader explain the paper, work through its central mechanism, and identify what its evidence actually supports. Deliver the explanation itself, not a list of paper locations or a decorative summary.

## Choose the reading contract

- **BRIEF READING is the default.** “Read this paper,” “读这篇论文,” “brief reading,” quick overviews, and paper mind maps use the existing examples' focused level of detail: the problem, main path, key mechanisms and equations, decisive evidence, and limits. Read and verify the source before selecting what to explain; Brief is more substantial than an abstract summary.
- **DEEP READING** when the user asks for “deep reading,” “deep read,” “read deeply,” “深读,” “深入阅读,” “仔细读,” “仔细阅读,” or comprehensive technical reconstruction. Read and apply [the Deep Reading protocol](references/deep-reading.md). Cover all substantive main sections and relevant appendices, reconstruct each core mechanism, develop key derivations and examples, and interpret the main experiments and ablations individually. A longer Brief or a diagram with a module list does not meet this contract.
- These are the **two depth modes**. Quick-scan/triage wording selects Brief, with a shorter scope if explicitly requested. Never silently substitute Brief for a requested Deep when source access, time, or output space is insufficient; report the gap and retain the requested depth for unfinished work.

Generate and dynamically maintain a visual project cockpit for any research or development project — a zero-dependency HTML dashboard with a research-trajectory flowchart, a hypothesis-space force graph, a status header, a pending-decisions list, and a hidden-premises panel. Use it when the user asks to "build / update / refresh the project cockpit", or whenever the project reaches a milestone closure, a major decision point, or a moment when the human needs to re-orient and steer the pace after long agent-run campaigns. The skill is project-agnostic and reusable.
