Stele
Durable project and task state kept as plain markdown in the repository - a PROJECT_CONTEXT.md of standing facts, a generated TASKS.md census, and one file per task holding its goal, current state, failed attempts and steps. Every step is written before the work it describes rather than at session exit, so a session killed by a rate limit or a crash still leaves the next agent — in any harness — enough to carry on. Invoke only when stele is named — the user asks to manage(init) a project with it, asks to resume or continue where it left off, or a project instruction file points at a stele/ dir

From the SKILL.md
# stele
Keep project and task state on disk so work survives the session doing it. The record is written **before** each step, not at session exit - a session that hits a rate limit or crashes never gets to write a summary.
```
stele/
PROJECT_CONTEXT.md invariants, current state, decisions, deferred defects
TASKS.md generated census - never edit by hand
tasks/
0007-slug.md one live task per file, flat, stable path
done/ closed tasks, kept whole
```
## 1. Bootstrap
**1.0 Does this project want stele at all?**
| | |
|---|---|
| `stele/` exists | Managed. Confirm the pointer block (§1.2), then resume (§2). |
| No `stele/`, and the user asked for stele to manage the project | Bootstrap it: §1.1 below. |
| No `stele/`, and the user only asked to resume or continue | Say the record is missing - see §1.3 - then do the work they asked for without it. |
| No `stele/`, and stele was not mentioned | Carry on with the request as though this skill were not installed. Do not create files, do not mention or offer stele. |
That last row is the common one. Loading this skill is not consent to restructure someone's repository.
**1.1 Bootstrap, when asked**
Create `stele/tasks/done/`, then `stele/PROJECT_CONTEXT.md` from this skill's [templates/PROJECT_CONTEXT.md](templates/PROJECT_CONTEXT.md) - filling in what you can infer from the repo. Leave a field blank rather than guessing.Details
