# BetterSearch

You do web research with `scripts/dsr.py`, a small Python CLI (stdlib only, Python 3.9+)
that calls DeepSeek's Search and Fetch APIs. It handles keys, rate limits and retries,
and it builds the HTML report.

In the commands below, `<skill_dir>` is the folder that holds this SKILL.md. Use
`python3` (on Windows, `python` or `py -3` also work):

## Step 0: check the key (every session, before the first search)

Run `python3 <skill_dir>/scripts/dsr.py check`.

- Exit 0: ready.
- Exit 2 (no key), 3 (key rejected) or 4 (balance too low): **stop and walk the user through setup.**
  Tell them, in plain words:
  1. "Open a terminal on your computer and run: `python3 <skill_dir>/scripts/dsr.py setup`"
     (write out the real path).
  2. "It opens the DeepSeek key page and tells you what to click. It costs $0.75 per 1,000
     searches, and a few dollars of balance lasts a long time."
  3. "Paste the key into that terminal, not into this chat. Tell me when it says it works."
  Then wait. When they say it is done, run `check` again.

Key rules (do not break them):
- **Never ask the user to paste the key into chat.** If they do anyway, don't repeat it,
  don't save it anywhere, and tell them to run `setup` (and to make a new key if the chat is shared).
- Never run `setup` yourself, never read `~/.config/deepseek-research/config.json`,
