From the README

VibeGuard

A Rust CLI for coding-agent rules, native hooks, and installation diagnostics.

Website · 中文 · Runtime contract · Rule reference · Contributing

V2 embeds 75 scoped review topics for explicit lookup. Installation does not inject rules or lookup instructions into the host's prompt. The library covers scope, facts, errors, security, workflow, Rust, Python, Go, and TypeScript.

Native Bash hooks reject a small set of destructive command spellings and record the latest observed outcome. An optional Git pre-push hook checks actual commit ancestry. The host owns permissions, sandboxing, tool execution, and the agent loop.

DeepSeek Harness users can load the DSH Bash adapter. It calls this Rust runtime, routes policy blocks through DSH's native approval, and fails closed when the pre-call runtime fails.

Install from a release archive

One command downloads the latest release for your OS and CPU, verifies it against SHA256SUMS, and runs install. It needs only curl, tar and shasum or sha256sum; no Rust toolchain or Python:

Replace claude with codex or grok. Set VIBEGUARD_VERSION=v2.1.0 before bash to pin a release. To do the same steps by hand:

Download the archive for your OS and CPU from Releases, extract it, and open a terminal in the extracted directory. macOS, Linux and WSL are supported; choose a Linux archive for WSL. No Rust toolchain or source checkout is required for this path. Run:

Native Windows (experimental, Claude Code + Git Bash)

Use Windows x64, Git Bash, and Claude Code 2.1.139 or later. Exec-form
hooks were introduced in Claude Code 2.1.139.
Download vibeguard-x86_64-pc-windows-msvc.tar.gz from Releases, extract it,
and run in PowerShell. The Windows archive will first be available in a tagged
release containing this change:

How hooks work

  • Hooks are shell commands Claude Code runs at fixed points: before or after a tool call, when you submit a prompt, when Claude stops, on notifications and at session start.
  • They are set in the hooks section of ~/.claude/settings.json (or .claude/settings.json for a project), or come bundled in a plugin.
  • A hook can block a tool call, add context, or run a formatter or test. Read the scripts before you install them: they run on your machine with your permissions.
