How Claude Code mods work
- A mod is a plugin with a JavaScript or TypeScript module that runs inside Claude Code (version 2.1.287 or later). It can draw panes beside the transcript, a band above the prompt, buttons and toasts, restyle the spinner and tool rows, and watch or rewrite tool calls and prompts.
- It installs like any plugin: add its marketplace with /plugin marketplace add owner/repo, then /plugin install name@marketplace.
- Check what a mod can reach before installing: it runs with your permissions. Reach goes from drawing only, to reading files, to writing files or running processes, to the network. Run claude plugin validate on a clone to list its hooks and calls without running it.
- Turn one off from the Installed tab in /plugin, or start Claude Code with --safe-mode to skip every customization for a session.

next-steps

now-doing
joanvelja/claude-mods
A briefing card above the prompt: the session's state and how long it has held, its mission, the open asks it is waiting on you for (kept until a quoted reply closes them), what is burning money, what it found since you last sent a prompt, what comes next, plan progress, and each agent with its last activity. `/now-doing asks` lists every open ask; `/now-doing sync` opens the full briefing in a pane. Written by Claude Haiku 5.5 on the session's own credentials.
next-steps
josh99smith/claude-mods
Suggests next steps after every prompt and keeps them in a to-do list by category, in a panel you can click (/todo) or drive with commands.
nukey
arifamir/nukey
Nukey, a little microwave with a face in its window, sits above the prompt and acts out what Claude is doing, goes DING! when a turn is done, and shows a control-panel meter for context and rate limits, in five colour themes.
