Claude Code mod

message

What another session sends lands in a tab instead of in the context. A peer's delivery is written to the mailbox under your home directory, listed in the Message tab beside the thread it belongs to, and announced in one line — and the session's transcript does not grow by a byte. The thread draws each message whole, wrapped to the column it has, with a Show more under the long ones that opens the rest in place: reading what was held has to be free, or holding it saved nothing. You read it and decide: Hand to Claude puts it in the context and starts a turn, which is the only moment it costs anything, or the field at the bottom answers it, calling SendMessage in the session's own loop so that no model turn is started to write three words. The left column lists the sessions running on this machine, read from the engine's own register: the name each goes by — the one /rename sets, and the one SendMessage takes — with the folder it works in and whether it is busy, this session named at the head of it and a refresh button (r) for the moment you rename one next door; the footer counts what was sent without a turn, what is held, and the bytes kept out of the transcript, three figures in two units and no total over them. It is the cockpit's fifth tab where a cockpit is seated, and opens a pane of its own where none is. /message opens it, /message hand hands everything held over at once, /message hold turns the holding off for the session, and /message who answers with the register of sessions this one can write to.

How Claude Code mods work

  • A mod is a plugin with a JavaScript or TypeScript module that runs inside Claude Code (version 2.1.287 or later). It can draw panes beside the transcript, a band above the prompt, buttons and toasts, restyle the spinner and tool rows, and watch or rewrite tool calls and prompts.
  • It installs like any plugin: add its marketplace with /plugin marketplace add owner/repo, then /plugin install name@marketplace.
  • Check what a mod can reach before installing: it runs with your permissions. Reach goes from drawing only, to reading files, to writing files or running processes, to the network. Run claude plugin validate on a clone to list its hooks and calls without running it.
  • Turn one off from the Installed tab in /plugin, or start Claude Code with --safe-mode to skip every customization for a session.

FAQ

What is message?

It is a mod for Claude Code, from devohmycode/claude-mods on GitHub.

What can the message mod access?

Its widest reach is "writes or runs" (writes files, drives Claude, reads files, reads env vars, draws, other: $.cockpit.hide, other: $.cockpit.mark, other: $.cockpit.show, other: $.cockpit.tab, other: $.cockpit.tabs). It draws in Pane, PromptHint. Like any mod, it runs with your permissions.

How do I install message?
