How Claude Code mods work
- A mod is a plugin with a JavaScript or TypeScript module that runs inside Claude Code (version 2.1.287 or later). It can draw panes beside the transcript, a band above the prompt, buttons and toasts, restyle the spinner and tool rows, and watch or rewrite tool calls and prompts.
- It installs like any plugin: add its marketplace with /plugin marketplace add owner/repo, then /plugin install name@marketplace.
- Check what a mod can reach before installing: it runs with your permissions. Reach goes from drawing only, to reading files, to writing files or running processes, to the network. Run claude plugin validate on a clone to list its hooks and calls without running it.
- Turn one off from the Installed tab in /plugin, or start Claude Code with --safe-mode to skip every customization for a session.

cache-guard
Rohitp/claude-mods
Counts down the prompt cache, warns before it goes stale, and can keep it warm with cheap cache-read pings.
cache-keeper
ankits3a/cache-keeper
Band above the prompt: prompt-cache time left, Warm button, keep warm for 10 h unattended, and a Handoff button suggested when the session goes off track (signals judge vs model judge, compared over 5 sessions).
cache-guard
mgstegmaier/claude-plugins
When a send would re-write a cold prompt cache, a dialog shows the estimated cost with Proceed and Start new session buttons. Adapted from Karan Bansal's cache-tax (MIT). Needs Claude Code 2.1.287 or later.
cache-keeper
bbarney7/claude-code-mods
Keeps an idle session's prompt cache warm for as long as you choose, then compacts or hands off before it expires; holds a costly cold send with its price and your choices; /keepwarm opens a pane with the session's settings
cache-guard
justmytwospence/claude-cache-guard
Keeps the prompt cache warm while you are away, asks before a prompt that would re-cache a large conversation, and with Jev (TypeSafe) keeps the context lean: trims large tool output and compacts in about a second.
cache-keeper
cainrus/claude-cache-keeper
Keeps the prompt cache of an idle Claude Code session warm, only while someone is plausibly coming back. Pure hooks: no proxy, no MCP server, no dependencies.
